Once upon a time...
I start the story and you continue. Once upon a time there lived a fish. His name was.....
Students continued the story a friend has started. In a way it is easier then writing your own story because you follow the storyline that someone has created. In the other hand maybe you want to write about something else but you must stick with that theme. Some stories are finished some are not so we will continue next week.

Journl Writing
Every Monday morning Grade 1 students have free writing time. They write what has happened over the weekend, create their own story, game they have played etc.
This Monday I showed students how they can use dictionaries to check if they spelled the word correctly. They already know that they can use a word wall to check spelling in our classroom wall. As you can see from the photos they were very keen to use the dictionaries. If you want to know what your child is writing about you can come into our class and your child can show you her/his writing journal.

Rhyming Words
In Literacy we have been learning the short vowel(a,e,i,o,u) sounds and trying to find rhyming words for those words.
In this activity I read one sentence and then another. Students thought what word to use to end the second sentence. That word should rhyme with the word from the first sentence and make sense as well. They wrote those rhyming words on their whiteboards. In the beginning thinking of a rhyming word was a bit difficult but as we went on it became easier. Good job!
