Visit to St.John`s Church

As part of our UOI we visited St. John`s Church(Jaani kirik)on Friday.
Pia who works there as a deacon was so kind and gave us a tour in the church.
Grade 1 students wanted to know:
. What is her job and how she helps the community?
. Does she make people glad and happy?
. Does she give goods or service to the people?
. How many hours she works?
. Does she have an office?
. Do they have kids room at the Church? and more...
Pia told us that every Friday 15 volunteers come to clean the Church and afterwards the Church organizes coffee and biscuits for them.
We saw how the Church looks and got the idea what services the Church gives people.
We really enjoyed the song with movements that Tero taught us ``Everybody needs love.`` Thank you Pia and Tero!

Visit to the US Embassy

This week we visited US Embassy. We met there 2 marines who told us that their job is to protect the people who work at the Embassy. Most interesting for students was of course trying to put the handcuffs on one of the marines, trying on the gas mask and helmet and looking through the night-watch binoculars as you can see on the photos. Thank you Sharon for organizing this trip and being our tour guide!

Capacity

This week we measured capacity of various containers.
We wanted to know what a capacity is and where do we use it?
We found out which container holds more, which the same and which less than a star container. We ordered the containers by its capacity and we looked for pictures of objects that can hold more than 1 liter and less than 1 liter.
Ask your child to help you when you are cooking and using cups or spoons to measure the ingredients.

New Year!

Here we are already in January! I hope you all had a well deserved holiday.
As you know we said Good Bye to Lucas in December. He went back to Sweden. We all fish him the best at his new school.
We also said Welcome to Nathaniel and his family this week. He joined us from Virginia. He has been here just a week but it feels like he has been here already the whole year. All Grade 1 students welcomed him in our class and he has been joining the games and the learning. Nathaniel and his mom gave us a presentation about the community in Virginia and we compared it with our community in Tallinn.
Thank you Nathaniel and Mikaela!
